Strange opening under my car. Help
(5spd getrag 282 manual I believe)
Under my 2001 cavalier is a rectangular opening. I think the opening is on my Transmission. I can see what Is my flywheel and some other stuff in this hole.
Around the hole seems theres no spots to screw or bolt on a cover.
But it doesnt seem right to have a 1.5inch by 3inch rectangular hole there for rocks and stuff to go up inside and destroy my car.

its a cut out used for inspection purposes. It most likely had a cover at one time. As long as you don't do any off road 4x4 ing it will be fine until you find one.
some vehicles don't have covers from factory for these openings. I would prefer to have one too.

Wow Im not sure ive ever seen that before. I hope it originally had a cover.
so if it did or if I find one hows it held on? theres no holes so I clean it and use a adhesive of some kind?
were I live we use alot of sand and salt on our roads 3/4 of the year... not to mention I dont even want to know how much stuff gets in when If I drive threw a puddle...

most covers have tabs that clip to the trans bell housing. Google trans inspection covers and maybe you will see one.
my 4x4 truck doesn't have one and its fine after 351 000km. don't sink the car up to the floor pan in mud and you won't have a problem.
