Just purchased a 2000 silverado 4x4 for hunting. Has 120000 miles and has been well taking care of.

First Chevy for me.

What's everyone doing oil change wise with the 5.3? 5000 miles? Oil type?

I was running quaker state in mine, just switched to Mobil 1 since it has to be dexos 1 approved for the warranty.

I have a 2004 Silverado that I purchased used early in 2010 with 74,000 miles on it. I now have 111,000 on the truck (5.3L 2wd, extended cab/long bed) and ALWAYS use Mobil-1 5w30 synthetic oil and a decent filter every time I change it.

My interval is 3,000 to 3,500 miles - whether it needs it or not. I know I could go longer, but it is "cheap insurance" for me and I intend to keep this truck several more years.

By the way, be sure to grease your fittings regularly. I have six zerks in my truck and I lube them every other oil change (which means they get new grease every 6,000 to 7,000 miles). If your truck is a 4x4, you may have more fittings than I do.
