help diagnose noise
Hey guys, first post here, seemed like the right place. I'm trying to sort out a noise from what sounds like my front driver side wheel. The noise is when the wheels are rotating in 2wd high, most noticeable between 20-30 mph but its the kind of noise that sounds as though something on the wheel is striking something stationary as it spins. Its almost like one of those bicycle tires with a playing card tape to the frame, it only makes "one sound per revolution" kind of noise. Hard to describe, but its not a constant sound, but it gets faster with speed.
Hubs or break pad issue or something else?

update--- jacked up both front wheels and tested movement at 12 and 6 o clock and zero play in both wheels... hope that helps narrow it down. I spun the wheel making the noise and it seemed to produce the sound although quieter and less often with hand spinning..

Welcome to the forum,
try pulling the wheel and tire off and spin the rotor...
could be something stuck to the tire, maybe debris caught in the caliper catching on the wheel spokes or wights inside the rim?
worn brake pad?

The rotor spin did seem to recreate the noise, although quieter from hand spinning, and on the maintenance in that area front, nothing except all four new tires put on roughly March 2011 and noise noticed May 2011. I will be pulling off the rotor as soon as I can.

Hey guys, still living with this issue but have something new to report.
Brakes changed all the way around in mid august 2011, grinding noise still there. The noise now goes away when vehicle has been driven, but comes back on sweeping right hand turns (example: on and off ramps to highway) but NOT on left turns. Weird I know.
Also, the TRACTION ACTIVE message displays now from take off from a stop.
I'm at a loss here. Should I just replace the front hubs or take it in?

duckmanco thanks for the follow up, for the cost of a visit to the dealer it might be worth it to have them verify the cause, and then you can take it from there....
