GM files a patent for a new kind of truck bed. Now we’re left to speculate what sort of innovation it might bring to market!

We already know what the 2019 Chevy Silverado looks like. Other than that, the many features that lie underneath its shiny new sheetmetal are mostly unknown. Which, of course, leaves us to speculate. The latest rumors suggest an exciting new powerplant and potentially game-changing materials used in the truck’s construction. But those are just rumors, after all. The latest piece of information we’ve discovered is a little more rooted in fact.

Apparently, General Motors has filed a patent for the term “Multibed” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This intriguing bit of information was first discovered by GM Authority, yet it leaves us with many questions. Namely, what exactly is a Multibed? What vehicles might come equipped with such a feature in the future? Let the speculation begin!

What we do know for sure is that this mysterious Multibed is classified under the goods and services category as a truck bed. With the all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra right around the corner, simple dot connecting might lead you to believe that both could be the recipients of this new bed design. After all, innovation is king in the full-size truck market. And both of these redesigned cash cows are obviously key to GM’s future success.

So that leaves us to ponder what, exactly, the multibed is. Does it feature some sort of built-in bed storage system like the Avalanche? Will it feature a power extending floor/bed of some sort? Or, perhaps it uses some sort of cargo divider system. Heck, multi could mean that it’ll be a bed on top of a bed. All we know for sure is, GM won’t stop innovating, and neither will their competion. And the winners of that non-stop innovation are truck owners!
