2020 Silverado High Country with new 3.0 liter Duramax turbo-diesel looks great at 2019 L.A. Auto Show.

Chevy’s innovative Silverado is better than ever. The Duramax I6 turbo-diesel offers class-leading power and efficiency. And for 2020, the segment’s best pickup gets a few choice updates that make it even more appealing. This High Country sits at the top of the heap and looks good while doing it. It’s currently a part of Chevy’s display at the 2019 L.A. Auto Show, which runs from November 22-December 1. The Chevrolet Forum team is currently attending the pre-show press event, which means we’ll be able to share all the latest and greatest Chevy news as soon as we possibly can!

In addition to the Duramax, Chevy tweaked the Silverado lineup with a few notable changes. Oakwood Metallic is no longer available. Fortunately, that loss is minimized by the new Vertical Trailering Mirrors. Adaptive cruise control also makes its way into the Silverado lineup as optional equipment for LT, LTZ, and High Country models.

The Silverado’s new Adaptive Cruise Control employs a single camera mounted behind the rear view mirror. It’s designed to fully bring the truck to a full stop and is even integrated into the start/stop system to maximize efficiency. The camera utilizes proprietary software to determine safe vehicle following distance.

One Sweet Oil-Burner

Of course the biggest news is the addition of the 3.0 liter I6 Duramax turbo-diesel. A clean-sheet design allowed engineers to maximize efficiency and performance. The inline-six also enabled the company to also develop a notably refined engine. That resulted in a best-in-class horsepower and torque rating of 277 horsepower and 460 Ib-ft of torque. Chevrolet engineers also designed the engine to deliver 95% of its torque at a low 1,250 rpm. Similarly, peak torque arrives at 1,500 rpm and is sustained to 3,000 rpm. The new Duramax is available on LT, RST, LTZ and High Country models.

For 2020, Chevy also paired the 5.3 liter V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management with the 10 speed automatic transmission. The new powertrain combination results in efficiency increases and enhanced performance. It will be standard on the LT Trail Boss and optional on the High Country.

Chevy also increased the availability of the mighty 6.2 liter V8. More than half of the trim levels offered on the Silverado now offer the engine as an option. That allows more buyers than ever to take home a Silverado with 420 horsepower and 460 Ib-ft of torque. And for the first time ever, customers opting for the RST Silverado with four wheel drive can order the 6.2 liter V8 as well. Better yet, that combination yields a best-in-class 13,400 towing capacity when properly equipped.

Value conscious buyers also benefit with the 2020 model year changes. Silverado Custom shoppers can now choose the 2.7 liter turbocharged four cylinder if they desire a little more oomph in their truck. That brings the number of optional engines available on Custom trimmed Silverados to three. It sure seems like Silverado customers have more choices than ever. And that can only be a good thing.

For 2020 Chevy solidified the Silverado lineup with some fantastic equipment and trim model additions. It’s a killer truck that’s more competitive than ever. The L.A. Auto Show’s press event is ongoing, so stay tuned for more exciting Chevy news throughout the week!
