Chevy Silverado Loses Wheel on Highway, Giving Kia Soul Its Wings
This wild accident involving a Chevy Silverado proves why it’s important to modify our trucks properly.
We’ve seen some crazy crashes in our time, though amazingly, those shocking accidents don’t always lead to major injuries. It’s oftentimes hard to believe that’s the case, but automotive safety has come a long way over the years. That’s also true of this horrifying accident that happened near Los Angeles recently, when a Chevy Silverado suddenly – and without warning – lost a wheel while driving down the 118 Freeway in Chatsworth, California as we can see in the video below.
Captured by the cameras of a nearby Tesla, this footage proves that no matter how well you think you’re paying attention to your surroundings, bad things can still happen – sometimes, so quickly that there’s little to no time to react. Here, we can see a Kia Soul that’s traveling in the fast lane, passing slower moving traffic, when it comes up on the Chevy Silverado. With the two cars essentially side by side, the driver’s side rear wheel of the pickup suddenly comes completely off and winds up right in front of the Kia.
The lower-slung crossover smashes into the tire, which hits the Soul with such force that it sends the tiny ride flying straight up in the air to a dizzying height – a shocking series of events, indeed. The Kia then comes smashing down on its roof before rolling back over, with debris flying around everywhere. As if to add insult to injury, the rogue wheel and tire keeps rolling, and strikes the Kia’s rear hatch before it finally comes to a rest.
According to KTLA 5 News, the driver was the only occupant in the Kia, and they somehow weren’t seriously injured. That’s a real testament to modern safety tech, but this wild looking accident also teaches us an important lesson. From what we can see, the Chevy Silverado in this video is modified, with larger wheels and tires that poke out from the fenders.

It’s unclear if the truck is equipped with wheel spacers, a lift kit of some sort, or perhaps the owner or a shop didn’t tighten up the lug nuts properly, but the cause of this crash could very well be related to one of those things. Even if it isn’t, this should serve as a reminder to ensure that modifications are installed properly, not to mention the fact that buying cheap, knock-off parts can also have devastating results.
