2021 Yenko/SC Silverado

Specialty Vehicle Engineering is building 50 examples of the supercharged 2021 Yenko Silverado.

The Yenko name has long been applied to the Chevrolet Camaro and other muscle cars, but thanks to the team at Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) in New Jersey, the Silverado pickup is the newest Yenko-badged model. The original Yenko cars came from Don Yenko’s Chevrolet dealership in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, but the Yenko/SC name was acquired years ago by SVE. Since then, SVE has offered up a series of high performance Chevrolet vehicles, including the SVE Syclone, but for 2021, the Jersey-based shop is once again focusing on the Chevy Silverado.

SVE offered a Yenko/SC Silverado back in 2018, but for 2021, there are far more options and twice as many examples of this 800-horsepower street truck being built.

Yenko/SC Silverado

The heart of the 2021 Yenko/SC Silverado is the same 6.2-liter, 378-cubic inch V8 that comes from the factory, but SVE heavily builds the engine. One difference for 2021 compared to 2018 is the engine size. The 2018 Yenko trucks had 6.8-liter stroker motors, while the 2021 trucks stick with stock displacement. The second big difference is cab size, as the 2018 trucks were all regular cabs whereas the 2021 models are all four-door models.

The engine block and rotating assembly of the new Yenko Silverado are balanced and blueprinted, with a forged twisted steel crankshaft and forged aluminum pistons. The top of the built engine is fitted with CNC-posted LT1 cylinder heads and SVE’s “OEM-style centrifugal supercharger system while the underside of the heads carry stainless steel headers. There is also a set of high flow catalytic convertors and a stainless steel dual exhaust system with quad tips out back.

This built LT1 engine delivers 800 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. That is a bit much for the standard Silverado 10-speed transmission, so the Yenko/SC package also includes a specially-prepared 6-speed automatic transmission and, for the first time, the truck can be built with four-wheel-drive. The 2018 Yenko/SC Silverado was offered in rear-drive only.

The SVE-built engine and transmission carry a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty.

Other Features

The Yenko/SC Silverado isn’t just an engine upgrade package with a historic name. The team also adds 6-piston Brembo front brake calipers over 16.1-inch rotors behind package-specific 22-inch lightweight wheels. The custom wheels are available in silver, satin black or satin black with red trim, all of which come wrapped in 305/45R22 performance tires.

To give this Chevy truck a proper, sporty stance, the Yenko/SC Silverado is lowered two inches in the front and five inches in the back, with performance tuned shocks at all four corners. This package also includes a heavy duty rear sway bar and heavy duty traction bars to help make the most of the available power.

On the outside, the Yenko Silverado features a unique grille crossbar and a matching tailgate panel with the Yenko name, Yenko badges on the fenders, Yenko stripes that run along the upper edge of the body and a custom hood insert that creates the cowl induction look. On the inside, there are more Yenko badges, unique floor mats, doorsill plates and sYc embroidered headrests.

Pricing and Availability

We don’t know how much SVE will charge for the 2021 Yenko/SC Silverado package, but we do know that there will be 50 examples built for the new year. There were only 25 built for 2018 and back then, the package started at $46,995, not including the cost of the base truck.

The 2021 Yenko Silverado package includes a transmission swap that was not included in the 2018 package, so the new kit could cost a bit more. At the same time, the 2018 package increased the engine volume while the 2021 kit does not, but both kits include full bottom end replacements, so the engine displacement change shouldn’t lead to a big difference in pricing.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
