2024 Silverado EV RST

Silverado EV RST is not the first all-electric pickup on the market, but it proves that good things come to those that wait.

The Silverado EV RST has now entered production and it will be showing up in customer driveways very soon. Bowtie fans that wanted an all-electric pickup truck have had to sit on the sidelines for a while as the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and of course the Tesla Cybertruck grabbed the headlines. However, patience is a virtue. Chevrolet announced the specifications of the 2024 Silverado EV pickup trucks, and they make it a class leader right out of the gates. Plus, it doesn’t look like a rolling dumpster like the Cybertruck.

Maximum driving range on a full charge is quoted as 450 miles. Up to 754 horsepower and 785 foot-pounds of torque is available in Wide Open Watts Mode on First Edition RST models. That is good enough for an estimated 4.5 second run to 60 mph. That is roughly the same as a C6 generation Corvette. However, unlike the Corvette the Silverado EV can tow up to 10,000 pounds and has a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds.

The RST and WT trims feature public DC fast charging capabilities of up to 350kW enabling approximately 100 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes. With up to 10.2kW of offboard power the Silverado could even power your home. Those are some serious stats, but even they don’t tell the whole story.

An EV That Performs Like a Truck

A big reason why folks are hesitant about getting an EV pickup truck is the fear that it won’t be able to do pickup truck things. Chevrolet is aware of this and made sure that when their truck was ready, that it could handle the tough work. “Chevrolet has been building trucks for nearly 100 years and understands what customers want and need in a pickup,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, in a recent press statement.

“Chevy’s truck leadership combined with our expertise in vehicle electrification has given us an advantage to deliver a revolutionary product. The Silverado EV RST has all the performance and capability of a traditional truck, plus all the benefits of electrification. It is an impressive and important addition to the Chevy truck franchise.”

RST & WT

The Silverado EV is now available in two trims. The WT (available in 3WT and 4WT configurations) was launched last year for fleet customers. The First Edition RST is a fully loaded truck designed for retail customers. The First Edition is packed with features such as four-wheel steer, automatic adaptive air suspension, Multi-Flex Midgate, 17-inch-diagonal LCD infotainment screen, and trailering-capable Super Cruise. Available options include 24-inch wheels, and the Multi-Flex Tailgate with power release.

Clean Sheet Design

Ford took their F-150 and re-engineered it to make the F-150 Lightning EV. Chevrolet designed the Silverado EV as an EV from the ground up. They didn’t have to deal with any constraints. The Ultium Platform enabled the team to design a truck that maximized storage and utility solutions. The Silverado may have been late to the party, but it is poised to show up all the trucks that arrived before it.

Chevrolet will soon roll out a larger selection of Silverado EV trims for retail customers that will come with a range options and capabilities. For a first effort, Chevrolet looks like they nailed this whole EV pickup truck thing. The competition should be worried.
