’72 Chevy Blazer Restomod Is a Cruise-worthy Masterpiece
Classic Blazer is way more street rod than off-road cruiser, and packs enough detail and horsepower to pull it off.
When most people think of the Chevy Blazer (today’s version excluded), they typically think of a rough-and-tumble off-roader. Something you can take the top off of and hit the trails on a nice summer day. But this insanely detailed ’72 Blazer we came across at Mecum Auctions is most certainly not that. Instead, this wild machine has been granted the full-blown street rod treatment, one that makes it worthy of the most prestigious car shows. Not to mention makes it an incredibly cool cruiser.
That all starts on the outside, where the hunkered-down body wears a host of changes. Including an earlier ’67 Blazer front end that looks right at home. The rest of the body has been shaved, yet a few trim pieces remain. The whole thing was then covered in a custom red hue contrasted by the black fiberglass top. And instead of knobby tires underneath, this one wears staggered 22-inch rear and 20-inch front Billet Specialties wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
The pro touring look isn’t just for show, either. Under the hood, you’ll find a fire-breathing LS3 powerplant producing 525 horsepower. It’s a work of art as well, wearing velocity stacks up top amid a flat black engine bay. The modern mill is backed up by a highway-friendly 4L60E overdrive automatic transmission. And if you need to come to a stop in a hurry, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes are there to shed speed quickly.
The smooth, simple, and artful theme continues inside the cabin of this Blazer. There you’ll find a set of comfy-looking custom bucket seats with side bolsters and custom armrests. The center console opens with a sliding door, which hides cup holders and a custom stereo system. The sea of red is punctuated perfectly by a host of billet aluminum, including the steering wheel, pedals, and other assorted trim.
It isn’t often that you come across a classic Blazer with such incredible detail. But this isn’t your average Blazer. Instead, it’s a purpose-built stylish cruiser, one fully capable of hanging with the very best street rod builds. And despite the fact that it isn’t as old as those ’30s and ’40 classics, this big Chevy pulls that look off perfectly.
