Apple Mastermind Steve Wozniak Wants a Chevy Bolt EV

A fascinating Facebook post surfaced on the web earlier this month from Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak standing next to a Chevy Bolt EV with thumbs up and a big smile. Most of us are familiar with Wozniak, but did you know he’s a special type of car collector? He’s an advocate of electric vehicles. From his experiences with many Priuses (Prii?) and a Model S, he has acquired a taste for how he’d like them to function. Word from the lads at Green Car Reports is that a member of the Bolt EV development team drove one over to Steve for a sample, and it left him wanting more.

The photo is accompanied by a post saying, “I expect to be switching cars soon!” The white 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV he tested is a pre-production prototype that has been hand-built in Detroit by the engineers who designed it. Of course, it’ll feel amazing, but what he mentioned in his comments below shows he talks nothing about actual construction, and more about the winning design and usability of the vehicle.

His comments speak about the car’s solid-working UI and “functionality”. Besides the fast software and good cargo space, Wozniak made a major point in saying the 200-mile range is the deciding factor of his next car purchase. He also mentioned that although it doesn’t have super-fast charging connections like Tesla, and not enough charging stations available, it is still the best buy for a long-range, low-priced electric car.

The interior also impressed him with class-transcending styling cues. I bet he felt like he was in a more expensive car. One thing he’s forgetting about this car, however, is how its smaller size could impact safety. Yes, this Bolt EV is due to hit dealerships late this year getting to market sooner than the equally priced Tesla Model 3. Although consider for yourself how much safety are you losing buying a car 20 inches less in length.
