Are You Going Diesel With Your New Colorado?

2016 Chevrolet Colorado 2.8L Duramax Turbo Diesel

If you’re in the market for a new Chevrolet Colorado, you have quite a few options when it comes to the engine powering it. There’s a four-cylinder, a six-cylinder, and now a diesel engine. While I’m personally excited about the 2.8L Duramax that Chevrolet is putting in the Colorado, I’m curious on what you think. If you’re in the market for a new Colorado, are you going diesel?

The diesel adds less than $4,000 to the overall cost of the truck, and includes some unique features special to the diesel. The first is an engine exhaust braking system, but that’s fairly common on diesel applications, especially in the Heavy Duty line of pickup trucks.

What’s really interesting is that the only way to get the integrated trailer brake controller is to spec the diesel engine While not strictly necessary for hauling a trailer, many people will admit it does make trailer hauling safer.

Speaking of hauling, the diesel engine adds 700 pounds to the towing capacity of the Colorado, making it 7,600 pounds with the four-wheel drive, or 7,777 pounds with the rear-wheel drive.

The only thing we don’t know yet is fuel economy, but it should be better than either of the gas engine alternatives. We could see as high as 35 miles per gallon on the highway, which is a good number. It’s even better considering in most parts of the country, diesel is cheaper than gasoline.
