Blazer SS EV First Look! Mid-Size SUV Looks BIG On Space

With wheels pushed out to the corners, the Blazer SS might be midsize, but it’s going to have room for days.

It’s a big first for GM. The Blazer SS is the first Chevrolet to wear the SS badge, so it simply has to exceed expectations. From this initial impression, it looks like it does.

Only a teaser image has been released, so we have to jump straight to the opinion section. The 2024 Blazer SS looks great. With low and wide styling, it almost has more of a wagon profile than a mid size crossover. That look is accentuated by low overhangs front and rear as we see from Car and Driver.

With a flat floor design and shared architecture with the Cadillac Lyriq, we’re expect the blazer too be a 5-seater. It might just be a bit too small to fit a 3rd row, plus we don’t know if the battery packaging would make a 3rd row feasible. Passengers will enjoy the room though, as there’s less interior space occupied by driveline components like transmission tunnels.

We’re anticipating that the Blazer SS is going to be a direct shot across the bow of the Mustang Mach E. With that said, it’ll have to at least be able to match the Mach E GT’s 460 horsepower and 600 lb/ft of torque. The presence of the SS badge has us hopeful but we still don’t know exact numbers.

Car and Driver says we’ll have to wait till July 18th for that information. But what we do know now, is that sales will begin in Q2 of 2023. MSRP? Your guess is as good as ours. Dealer markups? Extremely likely.

For those wanting a Blazer EV, there will be lesser models that forgo the SS badge. And there will probably be a marginal overlap from top trim Equinox models and low trim Blazer models. A side note, we’re guessing an Equinox SS will never come to fruition, but if the skunkworks at GM finds a way to pack a big electric motor in a small car, we certainly hope they would. You know, for fun.
