Chevy C30 Tow Truck: Perfect Hot Rod Companion

Chevy C30

There was a time when tow trucks were cool. And this classic Chevy C30 might be the coolest one we’ve ever laid eyes on.

Today’s tow trucks are, to put it bluntly, boring. They’re workhorses devoid of style, character, and charisma. But this wasn’t always the case. Back in the ’70s (and prior), tow trucks were every bit as cool as their street-driven brethren. And with a few custom touches, you can turn these vintage haulers into seriously show worthy works of art. Just take this 1971 Chevy C30, for example.

We spotted the charming hauler over at Gateway Classic Cars and immediately fell in love. For starters, it’s based on perhaps the best looking pickup ever built. But the previous owner took things a step further, completing a restoration few work trucks ever see. On top of that, they gave the old workhorse a stunning Twilight Metallic Blue paint job, complete with ghost flames for a nice added touch.

Under the hood, you’ll find an iconic, rebuilt 350 Chevy. But in the spirit of the truck’s past, it’s backed up by a 4-speed with granny gear, good for towing purposes. A new dual exhaust routes gasses through a set of bed-mounted stacks for a proper badass look. And of course, there’s a fully functional Holmes 480 split boom wrecker assembly out back in case you need to get some work done.

The interior of this Chevy C30 is a far cry from your average tow truck, however. A nicely covered split bench looks pretty comfy, and there’s a modern stereo to crank out some tunes. The rest is mostly stock, including the gauges. But it’s in awfully nice condition, much like the rest of this vintage beauty.

Whether you’re in the market for a unique showpiece or a different kind of tow truck, you can’t go wrong with this amazing Chevy C30. It’s got everything you’d want in a truck and more. And unlike those boring, modern haulers, this one’s guaranteed to turn heads everywhere you go!
