Modified 1950 Chevy Suburban Has Us Dreaming of Summer

It’s a little early to have the winter blues, but it’s never too early to dream of epic summer road trips.

From baseball, to apple pie and Fourth of July picnics, there are dozens of things that are quintessentially American. But the one thing that rises to mind as the greatest and most American thing in the world is the summer road trip. The immense size of this great land, coupled with our innate love of cars and yearning for freedom created the perfect catalyst for our road-trip culture to develop. The act of taking a car across this beautiful slab of land is so deeply ingrained in America that Route 66 is just as iconic as our national anthem.

Now, as the days get continually shorter, the cold cuts deep into our homes and our bones, we find ourselves thinking of warmer weather and trips to the beach.

And we just found the perfect car to amplify all those thoughts and dreams: A modified and restored 1950 Chevrolet Suburban. It’s going up for auction at ClassicCars.com and it’s pretty enough the Beach Boys could write a song about it.

The recipe is simple but effective: Take the classic long-roof shape of the 1950 Suburban, add a dash of “modern” style with the front end from a 1956, and then slather the whole thing in teal and white paint. Some upgraded wheels and tires, a few pinstripes, and little bit of elbow grease to wax that paint into a deep gloss is all you need to finish the look.

To make sure that you can make it to any part of the U.S. you want, it’s got a fuel-injected LT1 V8 mated to an automatic transmission, and it has disc brakes from a Camaro.

They even made sure to add A/C so you don’t get too hot during the warmest days of summer.

With enough room for four friends, all your gear, and a gaggle of surfboards and coolers piled on top, the greatest summer of your life is just a drive away.

God bless America.
