The Mini Square is the truck urban dwellers have been clamoring for.

Ah, the future. Where we imagine tooling around in things like flying cars and teleporting from place to place. Yet, none of this has happened. What has happened is a natural progression of vehicle evolution. Today’s vehicles are safer, more powerful, and more efficient than ever. But with technology advancing so rapidly, what does the future hold? It’s a question asked every year by the Michelin Challenge Design contest. And this year, one of the winners attempts to predict the future of Chevy trucks.

Is This the Future of Chevy Trucks?

At first glance, you might be a little shocked by the appearance of the “Mini Square,” dreamed up by South Korean student Hawon Jang. But dig a little deeper, and it’s clear that this futuristic looking ride features some ingenious design elements. It all starts with the truck’s diminutive size. As you know, most urban dwellers don’t drive trucks because they’re simply too big to live with in crowded city centers. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need the utility a truck offers.

The solution is the Mini Square, a sub-compact truck with only one seat. Everything here is designed with the single, urban individual in mind. Thanks to a modular design that hinges at the rear of the cab, the Mini Square can easily navigate city streets and tight parking spaces. The door is actually in the front of the cab, which can actually detach from the bed thanks to a magnetic link underneath. Heck, even the wheels and tires are designed to come off (and apart) with ease.

The lower loading position makes filling up the bed a snap, and special guard panels hold larger objects in place. All-in-all, we have to admit it’s a pretty ingenious idea. And while we often scoff at people’s ideas of the future of Chevy trucks, this one might just work. And we’d be willing to bet it’ll sell like hotcakes among city slickers in need of a pickup truck solution.
