You don’t need big bucks to easily put custom threads in your C10.

Throughout the course of automotive history, one thing has remained constant: If you want to reupholster your interior, you can either try to tackle it yourself or let a professional do it. But if you want a custom interior, an upholstery shop was pretty much your only option. And the job didn’t come cheap by any means. But these days, you can get that custom look with a simple DIY job. And Hot Rod recently demonstrated just how easy it is with a step-by-step C10 interior installation.

The kit comes to Hot Rod‘s crew courtesy of TMI Products, who offers custom C10 interiors with a wide variety of materials and colors. In recent years, they’ve placed a lot of effort into developing kits for 1973-1987 Chevy C10 pickups. So, once Hot Rod acquired one for a new project, they decided to give it a try.

The mag settled on a pretty unique combination of materials for the job. They chose to use vinyl from a vintage Volkswagen, in both Silver Beige and Water Blue. And instead of retaining the old flat bench seat, HR went with a pair of TMI’s bucket seats and a center console. Completing the look is a custom dash and door panels.

Once the materials are sewn up, it’s simply a matter of tearing out the old interior and replacing anything that needs replacing. Oh, and a lot of cleaning. Custom brackets and templates make installing the new interior a little less laborious. Not to mention giving it a totally different look. You can check out the full install, with tons of pics, over at Hot Rod.
