Fiery Red 1971 Chevrolet Blazer Convertible
With a 572 big block under the hood and Ridetech air suspension this custom 1971 Chevrolet Blazer looks and goes like no other Blazer.
If we told you to close your eyes and picture a 1971 Chevrolet Blazer K5 we bet that the image in your head would look nothing like the vehicle you see here. But believe it or not, the Fiery Red convertible that you see did start life as a regular 1971 Blazer. However, today there is nothing regular about it. It sports a Chevy 572 big block making about 650 horsepower. And it rides on Ridetech air suspension. And that is just the very beginning of the story. Just look at this thing. It is clearly unlike any other Blazer you have ever seen.
Back in 2023 the folks from AutotopiaLA drove out to an undisclosed location to see this incredible custom 1971 Chevrolet Blazer. The visit was captured on a video that was uploaded to their YouTube channel. Trust us, this is one video you are going to watch. And if you already saw it, then you probably want to watch it again. It is not everyday that you see a Blazer that would cost about half a million dollars if you wanted to replicate it today. Sit back and enjoy.
Design
Where do you even start with a build like this? Everything is custom. A few of the highlights up front include a flushed A-pillar and a raked windshield. But it is the amount of body work that is truly impressive. Everything is flush and smooth, and it is all sheet metal. There is no fiberglass in this build at all. The tailgate has been removed, the taillights are actually from an Oldsmobile.
On the inside there are custom seats and a custom dash. Dakota Digital gauges are used to keep tabs on everything. However, to keep the super clean look, sacrifices had to be made. If you look closely, you will notice there are no vents inside the car. So, there is no heat or air conditioning unit. There is also no top for this custom ride. So, this is a car that is driven in perfect weather only.
Mechanicals
Open the hood and you get a perfect view of the 572 Chevy crate engine that is set in a custom engine bay. The engine is connected to a Turbo 400 transmission and that goes to a Ford 9-inch rear end.
Slowing this beast down is a set of Wilwood brakes. There is plenty here to keep you entertained. Time for a drive.
On the Road
This is where it all matters. Looking at this custom Blazer is one thing, but it is the driving experience that makes it worth the money. That 572 of course sounds incredible and has plenty of power. But it is the ride that is even more impressive. It is smooth as silk and doesn’t jostle you around like you may expect. It is the perfect vehicle to cruise around Southern California. This is one of the greatest Chevy Blazers ever built.
