GM Brake Recall

GM initially did not include the extra vehicles, but was later forced to do so after it received reports of these vehicles having the same issue.

GM‘s ongoing brake recall has already ensnared a large number of Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac offerings in its tentacles, but the auto giant has now confirmed that it is recalling an additional 14,620 pickups and SUVS on top of the original batch that it recalled late last year.

For those that need a brief recap, this particular recall focuses on the power brake system of these vehicles. When it’s working correctly, the system makes it easier for drivers to use the brake pedal and in turn stopping the vehicle. However, if the system fails, this greatly enhances the effort needed to push the pedal down, and this has the effect of greatly enhancing the amount of stopping distance needed for the vehicle to come to a safe and controlled stop. GM revealed in a statement that drivers affected by the problem will notice some symptoms leading up to the failure including a vibrating brake pedal, a noticeable change in the pressure needed to operate the pedal itself, as well as a ticking noise from the engine.

The company already recalled 3.5 million vehicles under the same recall, and this expansion now includes additional Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, and Chevrolet Tahoe SUVS as well as their platform siblings the Silverado and Sierra. All of these models are from the 2018 model year, and are equipped with either the 5.3-liter V8 or the more powerful 6.2-liter V8.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) these additional vehicles should have been included in the original recall when it was first announced last September. GM initially did not include the extra vehicles, but was later forced to do so after it received reports of these vehicles having the same issue. The company later confirmed that these vehicles were also affected through internal investigations.

NHTSA initially opened a probe in 2018 after the agency received 111 complaints from drivers that experienced the problem. We have provided the details of the recall in question below.
