SEMA 2019: Chevy Performance Hall Racing Silverado Is No Desert Mirage

Fitted with loads of bolt-on parts, Chevy Performance and Hall Racing build a Silverado fit for desert competition.

The brand new Chevy Silverado is obviously a highly capable machine as-is. Tack on a few select parts and accessories, and this pickup can compete in and dominate off-road racing. We know this because Chevy recently teamed up with the Hall Racing team to build a very special Silverado, which we spotted while perusing the halls of SEMA 2019. Even better, this bodacious Chevy pickup is headed to compete in the Best in the Desert Racing Series2020 Laughlin Desert Classic on February 20-23.

Hall Racing and Chevy have long enjoyed a fruitful relationship, as the team already actively campaigns a Colorado ZR2 in various off-road series. Combine their experience with the know-how of Chevy Performance, and you’ve got a match made in heaven. For the duo’s full-size build, they chose to start with a Silverado equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 and 10-speed automatic transmission. The pickup also came with Chevy’s Multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve) high-capacity off-road damping system.

To that solid base, the crew added a host of Chevy Performance shelf parts. And some special one-off stuff just for racing. That includes a ton of skid plates, which you’ll find on the front underbody, steering gear, transfer case, rear differential, rear shocks, and transmission for protection from off-road obstacles. The front and rear shocks are jounce systems to handle the rigors of racing. They work in unison with high rate coil springs and single-rate rear leaf springs. The stock driveshaft was also replaced with a high strength steel piece.

The Silverado rides on gloss black 18-inch wheels, which are wrapped in 35″ BFGoodrich KM3 off-road rubber. Covered in Chevy Performance and Hall Racing graphics, you certainly won’t mistake it for some normal Silverado. Inside, you’ll find the requisite racing seats, safety harnesses, and a full roll cage. And for those low-light desert conditions, this truck is equipped with a large light bar up top.

By most accounts, this particular Silverado isn’t that much different from one you can buy at your local dealership. But that’s likely the point. Chevy and Hall Racing have built a truck that you can replicate at home, without much effort. And as cool as this thing looks and likely performs, that sounds like an enticing proposition to us.
