Sergeant Square Debuts as the Ultimate Chevy Squarebody Built for a Good Cause

Sergeant Square Chevy Squarebody SEMA 2023

Many months in the making, Sergeant Square has accomplished the goal of becoming the coolest Chevy Squarebody build on earth.

Last year, StreetTrucks Magazine announced that it would be documenting the build of something extra special – what it hoped would be the ultimate Chevy Squarebody pickup called “Sergeant Square,” a themed truck designed to debut at the 2023 SEMA Show and embark on a multi-event tour before being auctioned off for charity at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in January 2024. Since then, the rag has indeed documented the build process in detail over the past year-plus, and now, Chevrolet Forum has had the chance to check out Sergeant Square in the flesh at SEMA.

The process of building the ultimate Chevy Squarebody started out rather modestly with a severely beat up and engine-less pickup, which was completely torn apart, down to the last nut and bolt. American Chassis built the pickup entirely new, custom underpinnings, to which QA1 coilovers were added, along with a set of Slosh Tubz to accommodate some massive rear tires. All of the worn body panels, glass, and trim were also replaced with brand new parts from LMC Trucks to make this Squarebody look like new.

Once all the new body parts were in place, the folks at Johnny’s Hot Rods handled the paint for Sergeant Square, while Current Performance provided a plug-and-play harness, which – along with a Painless Performance wiring kit – ensures all the new components work together as they should. From there, New Vintage USA supplied the gauges for this reimagined pickup, DEI Engineering came through with the heat and sound-deadening material, and Fesler USA crafted a sweet custom interior for the vintage hauler.

As one might have guessed by now, Sergeant Square also touts a modern powertrain – in this case, a 6.2-liter LS V8 that’s part of the Chevy Connect and Cruise engine and transmission package, which came straight from GM’s own catalog. Wilwood brakes help slow the whole thing down, which now sits comfortably snug to the ground thanks to the aforementioned chassis and suspension upgrades, while a set of custom wheels fill up the fat fenders.

Overall, it’s safe to say that StreetTrucks accomplished its goal of building the coolest Chevy Squarebody out there, but this project is also going to help a very important cause in a few months. The proceeds from its sale at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale will go to Mission 22, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting veterans dealing with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, making it even more special – and notable – than it already is.
