Silverado HD joins GMC Sierra HD in the five-way battle for the title, Blazer in the hunt for Utility of the Year.

Every year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, a group of judges gather before the media to announce the winners of the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year. It’s a long process, where the judges whittle down the competition from a given lists of nominees, eventually selecting the trio of winners to present to the world.

While the Detroit Auto Show will now be held in June starting in 2020, the judges behind NACTOY will go on ahead with their annual presentation in January. Before that happens, though, AutoTrader.ca reports NACTOY recently announced their semifinalists for the coveted 2020 titles, including none other than the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD for Truck of the Year.

This year’s 29 semifinalists were chosen from a nominated field of 46 vehicles. However, the Truck of the Year category was the only category not trimmed, for only five trucks were chosen at the start, and the same five are still in the running.

The Silverado and Sierra HD trucks both not only have to take on each other in this particular royal rumble, but they also have to team up against the Ford Ranger, the Jeep Gladiator, and the successor to the 2019 Truck of the Year winner, the Ram HD.

While the Truck of the Year five-way battle is settled thus far, the North American Utility of the Year fight is more intense. The Chevrolet Blazer made the cut alongside the Cadillac XT6, and is just one of 12 overall chosen to compete for the title, outlasting all five of Mercedes-Benz’s entries, all two of BMW’s entries, and the Lexus UX.

The finalists for the NACTOY titles will be revealed at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, scheduled for November 22 through December 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The winners will then be announced in January at Detroit’s Cobo Center. The 2019 winners were the Genesis G70, Hyundai Kona, and Ram 1500. Cross your fingers for Chevy and GMC.
