Steve McQueen 1952 Chevy pickup

1952 Chevrolet 3800 stepside pickup that once belonged to the ‘King of Cool’ actor is up for sale.

What could make an impossibly badass classic Chevy pickup even better? Steve McQueen. We recently came across this 1962 Chevy 3800 one ton stepside pickup on Bring a Trailer that once belonged to the late actor. So basically: we love it, we want it, we need it.

Not only is the longbed truck in impeccable condition, but the auction also includes the camper as well as a Husqvarna CR250 bike. As of the time we write this–bidding is only at $42K.

McQueen was considered “The King of Cool.” A title he proved he earned effortlessly in his onscreen work in film classics such as The Great Escape and Bullitt. McQueen was also a lifelong automotive and motorcycle enthusiast, collector, and racer. Plus, he was Steve McQueen. Period.

Steve McQueen

As you’d expect, his ride is cool and timeless. The story goes that McQueen bought the Chevy from a farmer in California in the late 1970s.

One feature that is indeed special is the custom camper. Built by Northern Sheet Metal the camper is made from galvanized steel and aluminum. It has nice light with side and rear windows, a wooden roof platform, a heavy duty diamond-plate rear bumper, tie downs, a removable rear step, and an outward-hinged rear door. It also comes with a double-size bed, drawers, shelves, and a roof platform.

Camper interior

Definitely a vehicle to inspire wanderlust. Great use of storage, and a very badass pickup camper for road tripping.

The interior is clean, and also boasts brown and the same Forest Green as the exterior. Creature comforts are limited to a heater and an AM radio.

Under the hood it is running a 235 ci straight-six mated to a four-speed manual. Factory rated at 105 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque, it is clean as a pin should you feel inclined to modify. And shockingly, it has only 39k on the ticker.

We love this great piece of rolling Chevy truck history. Adding in the 1972 Husqvarna CR250 bike is a very nice touch. The truck and bike come with all paperwork, including a certificate of authenticity.

Buying a great running, great looking classic Chevy truck is a dream. Even more so when that retro Chevy rig once belonged to Steve McQueen. This is a pickup with a great background, and one that deserves to be on the road for years to come.
