Texas Edition Silverado RST, LTZ & LT to Receive a Few Changes
Texas, the state that loves pickup trucks the most, is set to get a revamped 2020 version of the edition that was named after itself.
Introduced in 2015 was the Texas edition, after Chevy found out (unsurprisingly) that the lone star state bought a large majority of their Silverado trucks. Like, one out of every six sold goes to a Texan kind of popular. It isn’t all that surprising, given that there’s a very truthful assumption about Texans and American pick up trucks: they love them. What a better way for Chevy to honor their most loyal customers than to add more to the trim package that commends them?
For starters, Jonathan Lopez of GM Authority says that the Silverado 1500 package wouldn’t be the only one getting the Texas treatment. Lopez reports that the LT, LTZ and RST trim levels can get the cowboy makeover. Besides a 10 gallon hat and leather boots, what does it mean when a Silverado is a Texas edition? To put it as simply as Lopez does, it means that some of the best features from the other trim packages get mixed together to make one ideal package. To boot, there are large and fancy “Texas Edition” badges all over the truck.
For 2020, though, not all Texans are the same. For the RST and LT versions, the trucks are meant to have what Chevy calls a Convenience Package, the Trailering Package, the extra special badging, and a locking differential in the rear. Whereas the 1500 LTZ package with the Texas flavoring would come with just the Convenience Package, Safety Package, and Trailering Package. No word on a locking differential, though.
The Convenience Package is, well, all about making truck life easier. For instance, it means a powered tailgate, heated rear seats, an abundance of USB ports to charge everyone’s phone, and ventilated front seats. For Safety, it entails both front and rear parking assist systems, lane changing and blind spot warning, as well as rear cross traffic. For the HD Silverados, the Convenience Package includes things like a rear window defogger, a leather wrapped steering wheel, bed lights, and dual zone climate control. Oh, and if it’s a Crew Cab version, the bench seat in the back has additional storage underneath.
Obviously, the best part of any of the packages is the Texas badging. Maybe we’ll see a California edition since there are a lot of pickup trucks there, too.
