Three Coolest Two-Tone Chevys from Mecum Davenport
Amid all of the vintage trucks up for grabs at the Mecum Gone Farmin’ fall tractor auction, this two-tone Chevy trio stood out.
At the same time the action was heating up under the desert sun of Las Vegas at SEMA 2019, a different sort of action was happening on the ground of the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa. That action, of course, was the Mecum Gone Farmin’ vintage tractor auction, a four-day extravaganza from November 6 through 9, attracting one and all to the big machines which make farming possible today.
While the first day was just tractors, the second day featured Gone Farmin’s first-ever vintage truck auction, while the final day had a few trucks to mix in with the tractors. Of all of the trucks to roll across the green block, a trio of two-tone Chevy trucks stood out from the rest.
First up is this 1986 C10, which was a last-minute addition to the vintage truck auction; its listing was shot on-premise just before the four-day auction began. The red and tan paint scheme is accented with an orange dual pinstripe looping around the bed, then cascades down behind the grill on either side. It’s a handsome stock truck, treated well by its previous owner.
Next on the docket is a 1972 K20 packing a Honda dirt bike (which was also on the auction block) in the bed. The Chevy is no stranger to a Mecum auction, having appeared at the Des Moines, Iowa red-carpet gathering in 2012. Prior to that, it was brought from New Mexico to Huxley, Iowa in 2010 for a restoration.
Between the restoration and this auction, the Chevy has just over 73,000 miles on the odometer, including 9,000 miles on the crate motor, which is attached to a new three-speed manual. And its blue and white paint still looks wonderful through it all.
Finally, here’s a 1972 C10 which underwent a frame-off restoration in 2012. The gold and white on this classic gives the Chevy the presence of a truck that would be right at home parked next to a combine harvester near a ripe corn field. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
