Custom ’72 K5 Blazer packs a big LS3 V8 punch to rock the neighborhood!

The Scottsdale, Arizona auction house known as Barrett-Jackson always goes hard with every auction it holds, and it goes the hardest at the start of the year at home. In 2019 alone, it brought a ton of famous Chevys across the lot, ranging from the quartet of yellow Bumblebee Camaros from the Transformers film franchise, to NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon’s 2016 Corvette C7.R.

It looks like 2020 will be more of the same, if rides like this are any example. We recently happened upon a custom 1972 K5 Blazer owned by none other than Travis Barker, the celebrity business guru and star drummer of pop-punk trio Blink-182, and it’s definitely a winner.

In 2008, Barker was one of two survivors of a plane crash in South Carolina, an experience which drove him to have as much involvement with his two children as possible. Thus, according to a June 2016 article by Street Trucks, he had his ’72 K5 Blazer turned into the ultimate child hauler.

The heart of the rig is its 525 cubic-inch LS3 V8, whose massive power goes through a 4L70E four-speed automatic and Atlas transfer case to the fat 35-inch Nitto tires below. The entire setup rides upon a six-inch leaf-spring lift with Danas on both ends.

Inside the matte gray BMW exterior, the K5 Blazer’s OEM seats were reupholstered, all of which rest upon black carpet from Mercedes-Benz. The factory radio was modified for streaming music through a big box full of subs, and an array of JL Audio speakers. A fresh A/C system keeps everyone cool in the California summer, a set of Dakota Digital gauges monitor the situation, and a custom roll cage ensures everyone’s heads will stay on in the event of a rollover.

Barker’s K5 Blazer is one sweet ride. While some rigs go all “Hollywood” on the street, this big Chevy doesn’t need any flash to establish its presence wherever it goes. We hope its next owner gets as much out of it as Barker did.

And if you’re wondering what it takes to be able to own a fleet of amazing vehicles, check out the stellar talent that continues to bring the riches…
