Velocity Signature K5 Blazer Is the Ultimate Vintage SUV Restomod

It may not be cheap, but the Velocity Signature Series K5 Blazer is arguably the ultimate SUV in every conceivable way.

These days, it seems like everyone is churning out restomod versions of classic cars, trucks, and SUVs, each of them chock full of modern amenities, powertrains, and various other touches. It’s easy to see the appeal of such machines, which provide us with modern creature comforts and iconic styling, seemingly the best of both worlds. However, few can measure up to the latest offering from Velocity Restorations – the Signature Series K5 Blazer, which is a true masterpiece in every conceivable way.

Starting out with the iconic and universally loved K5 Blazer, Velocity proceeds to retain the SUV’s original charm while also transforming it into what is essentially a brand new vehicle with the same level of detailing present in ultra-expensive luxury machines. On the outside, the Blazer is treated to a full-blown restoration with custom two-tone Glasurit paint, along with fresh trim, LED headlights, power running boards, and a set of Pacer wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.

Inside the cabin, Velocity gives the Signature Series K5 Blazer its own Heritage Leather Interior upgrade, along with a custom center console and door panels, custom carpet, and a host of amenities including a backup camera, Dakota Digital gauges, a double-din head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, an Ididit steering column, Vintage Air A/C, and a Focal Audio sound system.

As one might’ve guessed by now, the Signature Series K5 Blazer isn’t powered by some old carbureted powerplant – but rather, a modern 6.2-liter LT1 V8, which is mated to a 10L80 automatic transmission, sending its power fore and aft to a Dana 44 front differential and a Ford 9-inch rear end. From there, Velocity fortifies the SUV’s base with a full Roadster Shop K5 chassis, a set of sway bars, electric assisted steering, and four-wheel Wilwood disc brakes.

Add it all up, and you’ve got what might be the ultimate K5 Blazer – an SUV with timeless looks, coupled with modern reliability, performance, and comfort. It’s an amazing machine for certain, albeit one that also comes with a pretty eye-opening price tag, as the Signature Series K5 Blazer starts out at a whopping $339,900, minus options.
