Watch A Supercharged Chevy SS Attack A Mountain Road

Slapping a supercharger on an SS makes sense: it’s got an LS and more power is always better. What raises eyebrows is how well it handles itself when the road gets curvy.

The car is largely stock aside from the 2.9L Whipple supercharger. He says it makes about 105 more horsepower than stock, but that’s only half the story. He’s only pushing 8lbs of boost which is quite conservative. It is not slow though. Not by a long shot.

Matt Farah proves how underrated the SS is as a handling platform by throwing it into the canyons of southern California. Since this model is a 2015, it comes equipped with magnetic ride control. Basically, the shocks can change their dampening electronically for excellent body control under different situations like braking or hard cornering. Huge Brembo brakes help too, considering the SS weighs just under two-tons.

As the SS is something of a store-bought sleeper, this kind of mod makes sense. The Zeta platform is one of Chevy’s most solid and makes a great platform for tuning. Pro-drifters have been building the crap out of them for years—and winning. And while I like the idea of a very fast, unassuming sedan, I can’t help but want to see it with even more power. 500 is nice, sure, but seven is heaven. What do you think?
