Your Chance to Own Hank Williams Jr.’s Classic Pickup
This gorgeous 1958 Apache once belonged to Bocephus himself.
In the collector car world, celebrity provenance is a tricky thing. Some folks will pay far more than a given vehicle is worth just because of who owned it, while others couldn’t care less.
In the case of this 1958 Chevrolet Apache, we think that its ownership history makes it pretty special. It was once owned by country music superstar Hank Williams Jr., and we can’t think of a better pairing of vehicle and owner at the moment.
Even if that doesn’t impress you, the truck itself will. It’s a rare general Motors 50th Anniversary edition, painted in cream and gold, with more luxurious interior appointments. While the idea of an upmarket pickup truck is pretty sensible nowadays, it was a unique concept back in 1958.
1958 is a special year for Chevrolet pickup enthusiasts, as it’s the first year for quad headlights, the Fleetside bed, and the Apache name. It’s a bona-fide icon in the world of classic pickup trucks.
While the photos may make it look like a carefully restored example, this truck is largely original. It’s amazing to think of anything looking this good after six decades, let alone a work truck.
General Motors was equally impressed, and they chose this truck to display as part of their 100th birthday celebration in 2010. it’s also been displayed at the Concours d’Elegance of America on two separate occasions, in 2011 and 2014.
Sharing lawn space with million-dollar coach-built Packards, Dusenbergs, and Bugattis is pretty special for any pickup, but this rare machine wears it well. Just like its former owner, it’s equally at home hauling hay or sipping champagne.
Now, the truck is ready to change hands once again, and it will be offered at Mecum Auctions’ Monterey 2018 sale, which runs Aug. 23-25.
