Default 1997 2500 4x4 front axle seal replacement

Hello, I havea 1997 chevy 2500 4x4 with both front seals leaking. I have seen on the newer trucks that you just unbolt the CV and take the axle out with a puller or hammer. I cannot find any info on this year though. I was wondering if anyone has any info on replacing the seals. A good youtube video would be nice. I have also seen the case taken apart, but still not on my year or a 2500.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks Dan

you have to drop the whole axle, clamp it down, drive out the shafts, remove the inner axle tubes, then pull the seals out with slide hammer.

Public libraries usually have print and electronics service manuals for free.

Funny there is not a video on that model on Youtube, they have every other one.

Thanks, Mountain Man

The same 9.25 front was used from 1988 to around 2010. Around 2011 the case changed.
So videos from trucks that aren't your specific year will work just fine.

I have been looking at most of the videos on youtube. Most if not all have axles with four tabs where the bolts go through. mine are round. I have also looked for the RPO code and cannot find that to identify the front diff. I plugged in all the codes and nothing came up for the front axle. any help identifying the front diff.

Available axles at the time were a selectable 4WD 9.25", a selectable 8.28" and a full time 4WD 8.25".

The procedure is the same for all. The only difference for the selectables is you have to remove the fork.

What you do is go to the store and buy seals for the 9.25 and 8.25. You install the ones you need, and you return the rest.

that's the vehicle platform. Not relevant.

tabs or round flange, you just undo the bolts! LOL
