2000 K2500 HD Suspention Q's
Hi folks, I'm new here, this is my first post, and honestly not even sure if this is the correct section for these questions. It seems there really isn't a section for my old body style K2500 so I figured this is probably the spot. If not, obviously I'm cool with the Mod's moving this thread. Thank you in advance for any help or direction.
I recently acquired a 2000 Chevy k2500 HD 5.7L Vortec V8 4WD 2 Door Extended Cab with the 4L80E trans.
It has a **** tonne of issues (pardon my french), and I meant for it to teach me to maintain and repair things... I'm a total novice. It's my first truck and I wanted something for daily driving but also that I can haul things I need as I am an aspiring market farmer/gardener. While I could write a very long list of things it needs done and even things I've done already, I'll try to get to the point...
At this moment I am replacing the front disk breaks, the guts of the rear drum breaks, the shocks, wheel hub, as well as some suspension parts. I found a kit on ebay for the suspension parts and ordered it but now I've realized that because the truck is HD (8600 GVWR) these parts are for the non-HD (7200 GVWR) and that they may not fit... Now a part of me knows what the answer to this question is likely going to be, but I'm going to ask it anyway... Will they fit? Is it safe if they do? If I'm not intending to max out the payload or towing capacity? I haven't received the parts yet but they are in transit and it's too late to cancel the order. It's also about half the cost of the only other similar kit I've found that states it's for the 8600. Cost is a factor for me and often wins out over higher quality parts. Not looking to modify this truck into a top of the line beast. Just a functional and useful middle of the road beast... That will hopefully last a couple years... It only has 140K on it but the last owner didn't take very good care of it so I got it cheap. And this is Michigan, so rust abounds...
Any thoughts?
Thanks guys
