I have an issue, well i have many issues with my 1998 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado 5.7l but my one of my issues right now is a belt squeak/chirp after replacing my power steering pump. I thought at first I didn't push the pulley back that far, but i went back a check and it was in the right position. My second issue is that I'm still leaking power steering fluid after replacing the pump, pressure and return hose. my steering gear isn't leaking, so I have no clue where to look. I'm at a dead end.

 

Clean everything up and start up the pump again then you can maybe see where the leakage is coming from.

Most of the time squeaking comes from low fluid or a worn belt.

 

Add the tensioner and idler bearings to the list.

 

Awesome, I'll go ahead and try that. i also just got a code pop up for p4030. any ideas where to start. i have no exhaust leaks on the truck.

 

I think that's a oxygen sensor code, can be the sensors are bad or broken. Think there is 1 before and 1 after the cat.

If it's basic exhaust system code then it can be many things like, oxygen sensors, there's a leak in the system, Cat can be worn think they last about100k miles? Not sure because not required where I live. And it can even be the wiring etc.

If there is no leak I would check the sensors first.

 

Easy way to tell is the squeak is the belt vs. a pulley. Squirt the belt only using a spray bottle while idling. If the squeak temporarily goes away due to the water, then its the belt. If not, then its a pulley bearing.

Yep, air is blowing the ps fluid all over the place while driving- majes it hard to see the source. Clean up all possible leak points. with truck up on a frame lift, have someone cycle the steering back and forth while u watch from under w a flashlight. Should then be able to spot where the fresh fluid is coming from.
