Default I thought my problem was the ignition switch

1988 Chevy Silverado C1500

I thought my problem was the ignition switch. In replacing it I discovered that there was no 12 volts feeding it. So I looked to the fuse box just above the hood release. The two metal 30 amp fuses also do not have 12 volts going to it. So from under the hood I checked all the inline fuses leaving the 12 volt firewall mounted junction box. They all have continuity.

So my 12 volt problem is after the inline fuses but before the fuse box. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

My truck does not have any ubec fuses (fuse box under the hood).. Only the inline fuses and the 30A fuel pump fuse on the firewall

ok i found the correct diagram
the underhood relay center feeds ignition fuse #6 40amp and ignition fuse #5 50amp and both feed the ignition switch.

if you have power at fuse 5 and 6 but no power at the ignition switch....maybe power isn't getting from the fuse to the connector out of the relay center. flip it over and test for power at the connector out of the relay center. if no power...you need a relay center or run externally fused wires in place of the relay center for those 2 circuits.

Let’s start over with pictures.

Picture One - 12V junction box

Picture 2 - fuse box
Picture One - .At the 12 volt junction strip I tested each fusible link with a needle poked thu the wires insulation after the fuse. All the fusible links had continuity. Therefore I have 12 volts leaving from this point.

Picture Two - At the fuse box above the hood release I have no 12 volts present at the 2 metal 30 amp fuses. However I do have 12 volts at other locations within the same fuse box.

Somewhere between picture 1 and picture 2 I am screwed.

get a test light and find out where you have and lose battery voltage. continuity tests can be good but not carry a load if its one strand of wire remaining. if its lost in the pass thru at the firewall....run new wires.
