Default need advice on aftermarket power steering pumps

I own a 1991 Chevy K1500 short bed pick up truck with a 5.7 liter v8, 4WD and automatic 700R4 hydraulic transmission. Has anyone experimented with aftermarket power steering pumps to determine the best pump for these older pick ups?
Current pump only works when I increase engine rpm - otherwise hard to steer and lots of whining. This is my 2nd pump with similar problem (I purchased the Endurance brand pump for $62.99 through AutoZone which obviously doesn't work too well). Any advice appreciated....

Is there a kit for it?

There may be rebuild kits, but i'm interested in finding the preferred aftermarket pump other k1500 owners have determined are the best alternatives to OEM pumps (which you can no longer find).
