1997 Silverado 1500 RWD 5.7. Got a new wife. She came with an old truck (which she bought new). Was informed I will be treated well if I keep it running. So ... have updated and replaced several parts/systems. Now working on the AC system. Installing a new compressor and dryer. Pulled the old compressor. Compared it to new compressor. Exact match, except the wiring harness on the back end is missing from the new compressor. In fact, I cannot find any examples of a replacement/new compressor with that back side wiring harness. See images below. Anybody know what it is? Suggestions on what to do about it? I'm guessing its a temperature sensor. Obviously I took the snap rings off both in an effort to switch them out. Plug on new one popped off. Old one with harness crushed in the attempt, unwilling to budge.

 

Figured it out. That's where the pressure switch goes. You have to purchase separately. Odd no one mentions that.

HOWEVER ... I just closed everything up and attempted to charge the system. Got about a half a can in (out of 3 - total 36oz). Low Side pressure readings are way too high (68psi). Air coming into cabin is cool, not cold. I completely evacuated the system and let it sit overnight. No pressure leaks. So ... either I got the wrong pressure switch or somewhere the system is clogged. Open to suggestions.

 

Issue seems to be with the Orifice Tube. Wife hit a deer some months ago. Passenger side front bumper. I replaced the grill and lights. The line the Orifice Tube sits right next to/behind the turn signals. It must have been smashed just slightly out of round. Orifice Tube won't seat. Bummer is that line is integral to the entire A/C Condenser, so now that needs to be replaced too. This repair just got more expensive.

 

More work, but "happy wife, happy life"
