Default Volt Meter Reading High

Hey All - as you can see by the picture, my volt meter is showing that I'm running 16-18 volts. This is not new, it has been this way for quite a long time. It appears to work, because it dips when I have the turn signal engaged - and dips deeply when I'm operating the snow plow.

Is it possible that this gauge is just wonky. Or do I have an alternator that's trying to kill my truck?

Any thoughts?

I'd check it with a volt meter.

Most auto parts stores have a mobile unit that will test the alternator, battery, and starter on the vehicle. It will tell if the voltage regulator has gone south.
