Default Vortec 350 distributor gear material

New to the forum and was needing a question answered. I have a 1998 gmc c1500 with a 350. The cam I selected requires a melonized distributor gear and was wondering if possibly it has one from factory? I know a gear is only $45 but no need to spend extra cash if I don’t need to.

-last summer I went with a comp cams .488/.495 .212/.218 cam along with comp hardened pushrods, comp conical valve springs, and 1.5 ratio full roller rockers. Switching the cam out for a GM Performance 14097395 cam. Not looking for tons of power just want a lopey old school idle.

Most GM factory distributors of this era were equipped with a bronze drive gear; however, depending on the mileage of the engine, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already got an aftermarket or remanufactured distributor in it. If that’s the case then it most likely is cast iron or steel.
