Some progress...color sanded and buffed. Spent about 35-40 hours just color sanding and buffing...i'm slow.
Orange peel removed...overall it looks good for a garage job
While i had the box off, added a rough country leveling kit..should add 1 1/2 to 2 inches lift. Leaf spring block was easy to add. No need to pull the tires off, just remove the old spring u bolts, jack the spring up,
remove the old block, add the new one, secure the new u bolts and done. Added new shocks all the way around.
The torsion keys were a different story...20 plus years of rust, big hammer didn't budge them. Used a small 2 ton bottle jack and lots of pb blaster...they finally let go after rapping with a hammer 24 hours later.
Installed the front shocks. I have a few small items to paint, new front dam, chrome front bumper gets painted white along with the grill. I can now start putting it all back together.
More to come.
I'm a big Devilbiss fan. I use a HVLP Devilbiss Tekna for basecoat and clear, and have a few different guns for primers. I upgraded to a 2 stage compressor a few years back.
That helps a lot. Paint guns are air hogs.
Started what i thought would be a 6 week summer project July 1st...almost 18 weeks later i'm close to being done. Got an early snowstorm of over 12 inches of snow last week.
The exterior of the pickup is pretty much complete. Painted the grill. Was going to paint the bumper white but after getting it cleaned and polished up decided to leave it chrome
Installing rear fender liners today. I still have the interior work to do, new leather seat covers and replace the headliner.
Went with a newer style Z71 emblem. I am planning on a two line green pinstripe down the side of the body
Emblems refreshed with a couple coats of metallic jewel green basecoat and clearcoat
I will add pics when i get the seats covered...Need to repaint the wheels, but that's gonna have to wait till spring. Other than that its pretty much done.
Happy Halloween!
Got a little more work done...installed fender liners.
Pulled the seats out to recover...
Easy enough job but labor intense. Upholstery covers came from Ebay...a little over a 100 dollars for the set...so called "simulated leather"
They actually fit very well and feel good. They are quite substantial for the price...good color match... They fit like OEM.
Passenger side
Drivers side
I will get these installed...still need to re-finish the wheels but that's gonna have to wait for spring.
yes, prices run all over the place. The backs are usually good, its the bottoms that need replacing. The passenger side bottom is hard to find, driver side bottoms are readily available. I had to replace the drivers bottom.
Cheapest price i found was on ebay for 25 bucks. They just lift off the seat support, then set the new foam down.
