Default 2004 Silverado 2500 HD Front End Parts

Hello - I am sourcing front end parts for my 2004 Silverado 2500 HD. I wanted to know how everyone feels about the Detroit Axle brand kit. Seems reasonably priced. Using truck to tow a Boat not much use other than that. I just watched a great video of a guy installing the kit. Seems pretty straightforward. Although I want to replace the lower A arm as well so it seems I will have a couple extra ball joints in the kit since most come with ball joints pre installed.

I have never used parts from Detroit Axle.

The general consensus on one of the automotive forums I frequent (www.bobistheoilguy.com) is that they are bottom of the barrel generic parts from China that should be avoided.

However, on another forum (www.trailvoy.com) I also frequent one of the members has used a great deal of Detroit Axle parts with good success - he's never had a failure to date.

Me, I would stay away from them because they seem to be too good to be true.

I would stick with OEM parts or top of the line aftermarket parts such as the Moog Problem Solver parts which come with a lifetime warranty, Suspensia, or Delphi.

Good Luck!

Default Detroit Axel from Parts Geek

I've replaced the entire front end with Detroit Axel parts except for the steering box and Pitman arm. 2002 2500HD 4WD lots of stuck bolts and nasty-dirty parts but based on the work, I'd never replace a ball joint just the entire arm. All seems to be working well after about 2 years. If you're brave you can get a couple of levels, some string and a ruler and align it your self.

I have about year on my new front end parts in my 2006 1500HD LT1 Z71 reg cab Silverado. I did a complete overhaul except for the steering box best to remove it to properly torque on the new arm. I used factory replacements new from moog problem solvers TTX control arm/ball joints Dorman cam/bolts kit Specialty products company alignment cam guide pins.
Take note mark reinstall everything close to factory get it aligned
get A BFH, breaker bars, heat and a air hammer

truck rides great now like new GOOD LUCK !
