Default Bulletin No.: 02-06-04-037J and CEL P0446

Vehicle: 2005 Chevy Silverado LS v8 auto crew cab

Dealing with the CEL P0446

1. Does the TSB Bulletin No.: 02-06-04-037J apply to my truck?

2. If it does, how and where do you mount the extra filler box filter? Does anyone have some pics or a video?

Thanks

It applies if you have a slow refueling event.
the tsb is pretty straight forward. cut the evap hose at the cannister. Run a section of fuel line hose along the from rail across to the transmission and zip tie it to the vent hose on top of the bell housing. Install the fresh air filter to the hose.

the code is set due to an electrical fault; running this hose will not fix the fault. the fault is most likely from a failed evap vent solenoid. key on and check for battery voltage at the vent solenoid with a test light. If good, provide a grd to the vent solenoid grd wire...the solenoid should click when grded. if not, replace the solenoid.

Is the air filter something new? What I mean was it a part of my truck's original configuration? I don't remember seeing it. There is a hose coming off going forward, just not sure where it goes or what's on the end.

the original filters are cylinder shaped, made of black plastic....located either by the filler neck or top front of the fuel tank.

I just took another look at my evap solenoid vent and it has 2 connections. one is the electrical and the other goes to the cannister. didn't see any filter. still confused about the one that has a filter strapped to the transmission housing...??

post a pic of what your looking at. the vent solenoid must have a fresh air inlet or it could not serve its purpose...to vent

The OEM vent solenoid has the filter built-in to the top of the unit. This design allowed dust to accumulate and eventually let particles bypass the filter leading to the pintle of the vent not to seat fully. This would cause code P0442 (small leak) to set.

This sounds like my situation. I did replace the evap vent solenoid about ayear ago. Took the OEM to advance auto. The replacement looks just like the original.

Do you think replacing the OEM replacement design with the one that has the external filter would take care of the P0446?

I've heard that another strong possibility is the fuel pressure sensor. What are the best options to replace? I've heard you need to drop the fuel tank and others just lifted the bed.
Thanks to all for the responses.
