Cluster Problems Troubleshoot
2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 6.0L. Hi everyone, my truck has recently had some problems with the cluster that I have been unable to determine the cause of and wanted to hear if anyone has any suggestions. When I turn the truck on, it's about a 50/50 shot that the gauges and certain symbols activate (backlight and check engine light always activate). If the cluster didn't fully turn on with ignition, it will occasionally turn on en route and everything will work perfectly. If the cluster turns on with ignition, I have never had it turn off en route. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for why the cluster doesn't fully activate - hot/cold/wet/dry/etc.
This truck has been a workhorse for me hauling horses around the midwest, but I'm wary of any long hauls without a reliable cluster. I'm open to any thoughts or suggestions as to what may be the cause of this as I feel it should be something relatively simple and I would rather fix it myself if possible. Thank you all for any help you can provide!

the cluster stepper motors are a common problem with these year for the gm. theyre easy to replace with the proper tools like de-soldering iron (one with a pump) and an a soldering iron.
2000 Silverado 2500 with 5.3L. I'm having somewhat the same problem, but mine just won't come on at all anymore. I'm lucky enough to have a mechanic that also parts trucks out. He had another complete cluster that he gave me, and that one doesn't work either. Could the dome switch be going bad, and causing the problem? I had someone else tell me that was the problem, but would like to get a little more clarification before I get the new part. Thanks for the help.
