Default intermittent instrument cluster

This is on a 2000 Silverado. Occasionally, the instrument cluster just dies while driving. All the gauges except Temp and Fuel drop to zero and the red battery symbol shows up in the message center. Sometimes everything goes back to normal within a few seconds. Other times it comes back after I slap the top of the dashboard above the cluster. Thinking it may be a bad ground connection, but where? I have removed the cluster and am looking at it now. Don't see anything obvious. Any hints on what I should look for?

My 2006 Silverado just started that with a load of gravel in the bed. Now that the truck is sitting straight it works fine! Found a video of a ground wire by the firewall but his problem was a dead tach, not the whole dash.

This is what happens when an instrument cluster is on the fritz. The problem will be intermittent- until it's constant. In my experience you'll want to get a replacement in the works before it dies completely. Thankfully there is a shop other than the dealership who can get you a replacement all cloned up to your original so you're not in a tampering/fraud situation. https://www.instrumentclusterstore.c...t_clusters.htm

Default This is what I found

I have a 1999 chevrolet extended cab 4X4. A while back on my instrument cluster my mileage and gear selector displays would disappear then they would reappear. The mileage stayed correct because the computer remembers it. Any way, I found a video on you tube showing how to repair a broken solder connection on the back of the instrument cluster. It has worked ever since. Not sure if this helps you but I thought I would throw it out there.
