Default Light pods wiring

I am working two led pod lights into my reverse lights. I used a pre made wiring harness that came with it, it has a relay and everything but it came with a switch which I don’t want I want these to just click on with my reverse lights so I thought if I just cut the switch out and run the positive to my taillight reverse light power it’ll be the same. The switch had three wires a red white and black I ran the black ground I’m assuming to the frame and positive red to the taillight then I just left the white wire hanging once I got the harness all wired up and extended to my needs I put the truck in reverse and had no light from the pods so then I shut the truck off and realized my reverse lights were still on. So somehow I ended up running a constant power to the reverse light instead of using the power to kick on the relay. Any help with this would be so much appreciated I am not a wiring genius by any means.
