Default Missing vacuum thing?

I bought a 2004 4.3l v6 reg cab chevy and got engine codes for the too lean stuff. I looked and found a massive hole at the end of the intake tube by the throttle body. What is supposed to go there? It's where the red tape is at.

if it's not the MAF/IAT sensor, then its an air cleaner life indicator.

Are you sure that black rubber elbow is attached there in front of the hose clamp? I'm thinking that is was is suppose to be attached there where the red tape is..
