Default Tranmission Fluid change

I have an 2004 Silverado and was gonna do a transmission fluid change and I was wondering if anyone has done their own and had any tips.

I was gonna drain and refill? Would it be worth it?

I have a 2004 Silverado that I bought used about four years ago. It has 113,xxx miles on it now - but had 74,xxx when I purchased it. I had it done at a GMC dealership with the "BG" service. I did not know if any of the prior owners had done it before, so I figured that I should have it done by that amount of time & mileage.

I have heard some folks say that a 'drain and fill' is all you need (and the GM trucks do have a drain bolt in the tranny pan); while others say that a full flush is necessary. I honestly am not sure.

Good luck with your truck! Take care of it and it'll take care of you.

Default I'd change it every 30K if you don't tow much

I just did a fluid/filter change today on an 04 2500 suburban 4x4. Just drained out the pan (no drain plug in mine), replaced filter, put it back together and put 4.5 quarts back in.

Not sure if you have the same set up, but if so you will have to remove a pass. side heat shield and a transmission shift bracket (mine took a special ordered T35 torx) to get the pan out. Be careful with shift bracket torx bolts as they like to strip out, which is a PITA. Replace them with hex head bolts.

Took a good bit of work first time through.
