I have owned my 2000 Chevy Silverado Stepside Extended Cab LS 5.3 Vortec since the day I bought it off the lot. I have kept this particular truck because I like it and it has been dependable. Never crashed, never left in the weather and never had any mechanical work other than complete service items. It now has 110K miles and lately I have been thinking about changing the look. It currently looks exactly like I bought it inside and out. My thoughts have been regarding wheels, tires, mirrors, grill, LED lights and possibly bumpers. My wife just bought a black on black Lexus and I like the look. My truck is all black with exception of some chrome now. What would or have you done to update your truck if anything.
I think updating the look of our aging trucks is the way to go. I personally plan on some larger tow mirrors, LED projector-lensed headlights, amber-LED laden grill, and probably some updated rims (something minimalist, I don't like flashy wheels on a truck). I'd even like to do away with the body trim along the side, but I don't see any real options for updating the look of this trim, so I suppose that will stay. I'd also love to replace the front and rear bumpers with some off-road style bumpers, probably done in flat black. I think the chrome appointments from this era look pretty tacky now lol but I have to say it's a pleasure to see such a remarkably well-preserved truck like yours! I'd actually love to see interior pics as well, it's always so cool to see time capsules. But anyway, that's my 2 cents.
That's a very nice looking truck and in mint condition. Have fun with whatever you decide to do. I think that must have been at the tail end of any offering of a step-side pickup by GM. I've got a 1996 C1500 extended cab step-side with the true old-school step side body, and that body style is the reason I am considering restoring a truck with 201K miles on it at the moment. I only wish it looked anything like yours, but living outside for 28 years has destroyed the clear coat, and the kids (daughters) I let drive it the past 10 years destroyed the seats.
You are talking about removing that side trim, and here I am thinking of replacing it, after a paint job, as the chrome strip is all faded out, haha. The amount of chrome on the old body style kinda sets it apart from the more modern trucks.
