what are the max miles on 4l60e transmission before failure with regular service
I am looking at buying a 2000 Silverado LT with the Z71 package and 5.3 engine. It has 218,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. asking price is $4500
It is a one owner truck and and I know the guy well enough to believe him when he says that it has been service regularly and not abused.
What is the chance that the 4l60e can last 300k miles or more?
thanks in advance, Cal

its not impossible. I have seen them go that far. 200 plus is generally near the end of life. it may go to 300 it may fail tomorrow. It will have some wear on it.
When you buy something that old all you can do is inspect the fluid, test drive and check for dtc and I/M monitors. If that all is ok and the body is rust free, make an offer. Its not worth 4500 imo

My 2004 suburban made it to 225 and lost 2nd gear. Had that fixed but not completely rebuilt. It made it to 260 and lost 3rd and transfer case was making a scraping noise. I pulled both out myself and took it to a renowned 30+ year local tranny guy. Rebuilt both units and updated with latest parts. $1500 for tranny and new torque converter, $700 for transfer case. I replaced the radiator and external tranny cooler. I got both parts from NAPA. Should have it back on the road tonight.
There is no check engine light and the ETC codes are clear.
The fluid is clean and does not smell burnt.

2003 Z71 with 5.3l and 275,000 on it. I neglected the trans maintenance, it just started slipping yesterday, I believe it would still be going strong if I had not got lazy and didn't change the filter and fluid 100,000 miles ago....
I've seen them knock on 300k with religious maintenance.
I still haven't given mine a real hard look yet, but it shifts as expected and a jiffy lube guy had it before me so I have to believe it's been at least flushed.
If it goes I'll likely go for one out of a bone yard and have one built.
