2008 2500hd 6.0 cruise control issue
I just traded for this truck and i consistently notice more problems with this truck the cruise control doesnt work i seen that a big problem was to change the brake switch on the brake pedal but i noticed that others said there light was on on the steering wheel and mine is not i havent found a fuse or relay for it any suggestions?
There’s no directly fused circuit for the cruise - it’s completely controlled by the PCM based on inputs from the BCM, instrument cluster, and transmission.
Have you noticed any other interior lighting issues (such as dash lights very dim or dimming control not working at all)? Is the check engine light on? Some power train codes will disable the cruise until repaired.
The buttons on the wheel are just inputs for the BCM, and the BCM controls the indicator light, but just because the indicator light isn’t on does not mean the cruise isn’t active. I can’t recall if the on/off button on the 2008 will actually stay depressed if the cruise is on or not, but if it does (so you know for sure it’s supposed to be on), try this the next time you want to use it:
1) Switch it to the on position.
2) Using your foot, pull the brake pedal back toward you.
3) See if the cruise will set.
If the cruise engages, its definitely the brake switch that’s at fault. You may not feel any actual movement in the pedal when you pull back on it, but it will move the switch just enough to open the contacts.
If that doesn’t work, you may have to have a shop do a diagnostic because reading live data within the modules may be necessary.
