2008 Silverado Radio/Speakers issue
Louis,
I understand that you do not necessarily answer for the entire GM company. I can tell you that I have been following this thread for quite sometime, and the one thing GM has yet to do is answer these folks' questions.
I am not sure why a mass problem, evidenced by these posts, is being handled on a case by case basis. It's the same problem for everybody. As for determining "warranty," let me ask you a direct question. Are the speakers in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, or any 2008 model for that matter, under warranty?
You should know the answer to that. If the answer is no, what is Chevrolet prepared to do, if anything? If the answer is yes, why haven't you just told everyone that it's under warranty and to go get it fixed?
I want you to know that I am not trying to be rude, but I do feel as though we are getting the runaround and answers much like a politician (we all know they answer questions without really answering a question).
I don't mean to be "that guy" who makes rhetorical and idle threats, but why would I ever buy another Chevrolet product if the manufacturer isn't willing to address, in the grand scheme of things, a minor issue let alone a major issue? A quality product is a quality product right down to the smallest nut and bolt. While speakers don't affect the drive train on a truck, it is still part of the product we purchased, and it's cheap.
I am a straight shooter, and I appreciate those who treat me with the same respect. Please just answer the questions and stop trying to run damage control with empty, political responses. To recap the questions:
1. Are speakers in a 2008 Chevrolet (any model) still under warranty?
2. If not, what is Chevrolet doing to address the problem?
Thank you.

This covers manufacturer defects, as long the system had not been modified or altered, damaged due to an accident, environment or chemical exposure or misused. I have not suggested taking the vehicle in under warranty, because the posts listed were out of warranty.
If the vehicle is no longer under warranty, have the vehicle inspected by a certified technician for additional assistance.
All issues are handled on a case-by-case basis, which includes this issue. The reason for this is because everyone's case is different. Some people have purchased their vehicle new, some have had purchased used. Some are aware of modifications to their vehicles before purchase, others are not. Some have had all their service and maintenance done at their dealer, which we would have a record of, others have opted to use an independent shop, of which we do not have a record of. There are many factors to take into consideration, which is why issues are handled on an individual case-by-case basis.
Thank you.

Louis,
I am pretty sure everybody knows that a warranty is no good under the circumstances you have described. Since when is a recall done on a case by case basis? Everyone is wanting to know if Chevrolet is going to recall the issue with these cheap speakers, and you still haven't answered the question.
Actually, by not answering the question, you have answered mine. General Motors has lost a customer.
Thank you for your time.

Does anyone know if there is a video on how to remove the door panels on the front doors to remove their speakers and replace them.
I am tired of waiting on Chevy, because I know they are not going to do anything about it, so I want to replace them so I start shopping for a new truck, other than chevy.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

watch these two YouTube videos. (Mainly part 1)
may not be exactly same as your panel.. but process is similar.
trickiest part for me was removing the door latch cable. you cannot see where/how to pinch the release clip. but basically you have to pinch the captive wings together behind where the cable attaches to the bracket.
Once you do this once, the second door will be a breeze.
One other note, if this is first time panel is coming off. Do not force it. There is sound barrier insulation that is rubber tacked to the metal door and also attached to the panel. Once you have the panel released from the door, lay on ground and detach the barrier from the panel at two places. leaving the barrier attached to the metal. Least this is what worked for me.

This is not a recall issue. I apologize for any confusion. I am merely providing the information available within my resources. I'm sorry you are not satisfied with the reply. However, there are currently no recalls related to this issue. If one were to be issued, those affected would be notified by mail.

I have had the same problems with the speakers, and its driving me nutts. There has got to be some kind of recall for this but I can not find one. I took it to the dealership a year ago and they said my speakers were bad. I don't think they even looked at the problem. I find it hard to believe that the speakers are bad when they eventually come on and play fine with no distortion. Also having problems with door locks failing. Had one replaced last year at dealership and now another has stopped working.
Hello to all,
I've been having the SAME intermittant problem with my truck as the others posted here: No warning chime and no sound out of the speakers. I took my truck to the dealer for a LOF today and had them look at it. All 4 speakers were blown.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

Are all these problems with the factory or OEM radio??
If so since it nad its outputs are controlled by the LAN BUS system and teh OnStar system it may need a system reboot.
Sounds crazy right??!!
These new cars and trucks are computer controlled-the turn signal clicking comes through the radio not a flasher as before- its electronically controlled now by the BCM-Body Control Module.
When you get a chance- disconnect the negative battery cable for 10-15 minutes and then reconnect. Yes you will have to reset your stations and clock etc but the reset my just solve your issues.

seems some of these issues are blown speakers which is user error/misjudgement/etc..
speakers and audio systems have no rev limiter like the engine does--only your good common sense if the speakers are blown/rattling etc..
example, your truck may run 110 mph but do you do it all the time?? no because it would "tear" something up inadvertently but something would give.
other hand with all the cut out issues and the Onstar in and out and channels cutting in and out could be the LAN BUS system or in the case of Bose Audio could be the amplifier which receives signals from the head unit controlled by the LAN BUS system and BCM.; which is a computer data link system not uncommon to your home or office network. Something goes amiss on the network and the printer or POS system won't operate properly- you would normally reboot it. Sometimes this works- doesn't hurt to try it anyway- just some time.
