its not that youre buying a used vehicles with all its problems its that youre buying a vehicle thats now illegal to be sold. if someone disabled the light then thats showing intent to hide the fact the airbag system isnt functioning. that in itself is where most of the trouble will be. if you dont disable the light, youre not trying to hide anything. even if theres no accident then its technically fraud if someone found out the light was disabled.

just looked it up and apparently it will fall back on the seller even if they specify "as is" heres some lawyers talking about it

now granted its about the light coming on but if theyre liable for just the light coming on imagine if it was disabled. it would kind of hard to prove who disabled it in the first place so it would be the responsibility of the seller to make sure it was safe

It’s against federal law for a dealership or mechanic to disable or remove any part of a car’s safety system, including the airbags and the airbag indicator light. And, while there’s no federal law against an individual disabling his or her own airbag, it’s incredibly dangerous.
