emergency start
I have a 2009 Silverado V6 4.3 with the infamous
intermittent no crank, no start issue.
My mechanic has worked on it twice and and the first time it lasted 2 days and the second time 1 day..
I have had it towed 3 times and I am just looking for a way to start the motor when this happens so I
could get it to the shop without the hassle and expense of another tow.
When it happens, the dash lights and accesories all light but no crank or click from the motor.
When I jump the starter relay the motor cranks but will not start as if its not getting fuel but fuel pump I think is
working.
Shouldnt it start if the right key is used to turn the ignitions switch to start and the starter relay is jumped?

How old is the battery? It may be weak enough to not provide enough amps/voltage to crank. Check the battery posts and cable connections and CLEAN them with wire brush. They can look okay, but have a film built up that interferes with the current. Also check the connection to the starter - it may be corroded/dirty. Clean that as well.

As Henry stated, if it is cranking when you jump the relay then you have a possible fuel delivery issue (pump or injectors). Or the battery could be weak enough to be unable to engage the starter or the spark is too weak.
The intermittent problem is it might start and run fine 19 times and on the 20th time there is no crank. Obviously, there is no signal to turn on the starter relay since it will crank when the relay is jumped. But why doesn't it start if the right key is in the ignition? The security led is not lit which indicates the anti-theft system is activated.
